Frequently Asked Questions
Dogs on Christiansø
Christiansø is a bird sanctuary and dogs or cats are not allowed. However, service & guide dogs that must be kept on a leash are allowed. Dog sitting can also be offered, contact www.bornholmshundecenter.dk (https://www.bornholmshundecenter.dk)
Is it possible to join the guided tour?
Yes, it is, if there are available places in the booking system, otherwise you should ask the guides after arriving at Christiansø. The guided tour is not for people with walking difficulties, users of walkers, etc.
Is it possible to drive with a wheelchair, electric scooters, etc. on board?
No, we have a few stairs to get on the ferries, and Christiansø & Frederiksø have limited access due to stairs.
So, you must be able to walk a few steps to get on board.
Can I bring my car to Christiansø?
No, there are no roads on Christiansø & Frederiks, so neither cars nor other vehicles can come.
Can I bring my bike to Christiansø?
No, there are no paths to cycle on, and we do not have space on board for bikes.
Can I bring a stroller & pram?
Yes, we have space for the smaller versions.
Can you stay overnight on Christiansø?
Yes, there are several options. But in high season it requires that you book a space well in advance.
See more at www.christiansoe.dk (https://www.christiansoe.dk)
I have a lot of luggage, what do I do?
In the season when M/S Ertholm sails, all cargo & goods must be ready for handling by the crew no later than 09:00 on the same day. If you arrive later than this, you will be advised of the next possible cargo & goods sailing. On days when the quantities of cargo & goods are large, it can be divided into several departures on the same day. See more under Practical - Cargo & Goods, including prices.
Handicap Parking
In the lower part of Gudhjem there are several FREE handicapped parking spaces.
Where else can I park?
We always recommend parking above the town in the FREE spaces, especially in high season when many people want to visit Gudhjem.
The paid parking down in the town has very few spaces, and currently costs Dkr. 30,- per hour from 10:00-16:00 during the period. See more under Practical - Parking in Gudhjem.
Change of port of call due to weather
In certain wind directions, Gudhjem cannot be called and Tejn port is used instead. If you are on a day trip and have sailed from one port and the ship has to call at another port on the return trip due to the weather, the shipping company will provide transport back to the port you came from. However, if the ship departs from Tejn in the morning and returns to Tejn in the afternoon, there will normally be no transport to Gudhjem. If you have spent the night on Christiansø, you may risk having to transport yourself from Tejn and back to your starting point.
